European Artisans Discover Zen in Bronze: Cross-Cultural Dialogue at  Foundry‌
Shenzhen, June 17, 2025

Amid the scent of sandalwood in a Song Dynasty-inspired courtyard, German sculptor Lukas Beckermann knelt before a Medicine Buddha statue, tracing finger along lotus pedestal’s wave-patterned casting seams. This intimate moment unfolded as the EU Cultural Commission delegation explored the "Zen Essence Gallery" – a revolutionary showcase merging ancient craftsmanship with contemporary spatial design.

‌Metal Casting as Spiritual Practice‌
In the Tang-style sand casting zone, Belgian metal artist Sophie Dubois marveled at 0.3mm beeswax molds. "This precision transcends technology," explained Technical Director Li Jianjun as molten bronze poured into molds, creating golden lotus-shaped bubbles. "The vanishing wax embodies Buddhist philosophy – form emerges precisely when temporary mediums disappear."

‌Digital Pilgrimage Through Time‌
The "Song-Ming Aesthetics" hall sparked audible gasps when algorithm-controlled projections transformed a single Guanyin statue. Italian curator Marta Bianchi watched the bodhisattva morph from Northern Wei Dynasty’s grandeur to Ming Dynasty elegance. French lacquer master Pierre Laurent experimented with digital overlays, fusing Gothic rose window motifs onto Buddha’s aureole – creating real-time cultural fusion.

‌Tea Ceremony of Transient Wisdom‌
During the closing ritual at a refurbished bronze bell tea-table, artisans demonstrated lost-wax casting of tea scoops. "The Heart Sutra carved on wax molds will melt away," National Heritage Crafter Zhang remarked to Dutch glass artist Anna van Dijk, "Yet like ink dissolving in tea, true mastery flows beyond physical forms." Their porcelain cups chimed in unison with newly cast temple bells outside – a serendipitous harmony of sacred and mundane.

The delegation departed with a unique Buddha statue featuring Murano glass-inspired gilding, destined for Florence Biennale. As delegation head Dr. Klaus Fischer noted: "Today we witnessed not just artistic skill, but the materialization of a civilization’s spiritual wisdom."
